Capital
Comics Collective is currently accepting submissions for its
2012 anthology, 'History Comix'. Our first anthology, produced in 2011,
was a general showcase for our newly formed comic creators group. This
anthology will have a theme of local history, and creators are
encouraged to choose a local historical subject as a subject for a short
comic. This collection will also be printed locally, here in Troy, NY.

Submissions
are not only open to members of the Collective, but for any creators in
the US with a connection to the region, or an enthusiasm for the area
in general.
'Capital Comics Collective Presents: Local History Comix' Submission Guidelines
Submissions must be sent to idrawcomics@gmx.com by September 1st, 2012.
Please send a small web-sized version of
your submission, and upon acceptance, you'll be prompted to send a
larger print appropriate file.
- Submission should be 2 to 10 pages in length.
- Black and white or greyscale,
- File should be in TIFF format, at least 300 DPI
- Page size is 5.5"x8.5" - please allow 1/2" white border around your artwork. No bleeds.
Again, the theme is the local history of
our area in upstate New York. There are plenty of resources online to
aid creators in their search for an intriging subject, and this area is
not without its interesting history. There are of course, several
historical societies in the general vicinity of the area that may be
very helpful. If you are still stuck without a subject you like, please
contact us and we can put you in contact with a local history expert to
guide you.
Can I illustrate an old family anecdote, or does the subject matter need to come from a history book or archive?

The primary purpose of the book is to create interesting historical
nonfiction comics with a local theme, as well as promoting comics in
general locally. Basically anything you deem interesting, notable,
scandalous, memorable, or otherwise would be perfect. As long as you're
illustrating a true event in the past that also happened in this area,
I'd say you're good. That being said, the older the subject or event,
the better.
Can I just draw a picture of something from our local history? Like a pinup?
No, we're only seeking short comics. Members of Capital Comics Collective will be providing the cover and back cover art.
Artist or Writers whose works are selected
for the anthology will not be receiving complimentary copies, but will
receive a discount when purchasing their own copies. This is a
not-for-profit local venture, and any profit whatsoever will be put
towards a second print run of the anthology. Contributors who purchase
their own copies are free to sell them at the list price and keep 100%
of the profits.
Contributors will retain all rights to
their work. There will be a short agreement sent via email by the
editors to all those who are accepted for publication.
